the reason why we came to beijing is to apply for a russian visa so that we can take the trans-siberia train to moscow. however, it turned out that it wasnt easy to get it done because we were unable to provide the hotel information and an itinerary. we must obtain letter of invitation from a hotel in russia that we will be staying in and when we will enter and exit russia. this was a headache for us.
so, we took Steve's (our Aussie room-mate) suggestion to apply for a Pakistan visa and go via Pakistan and Iran to Europe. it took us about 3 to 4 days to get the Pakistan visa (abt RMB190 for one)and cost much lesser than the russian one. and the best of all, we dont have to pre-arrange our itinerary.
